What are the best damned settings already for smoothest gameplay?įirst of all, every setup is different. Okay, so thats explained most of the problems of PC gaming. Symptoms from applying Fix : a) Your fps may lower slightly b) You will get screen tearing instead of the juddering How to Fix : a) Turn threaded optimisation off b) Turn Full Vsync off and apply adaptive Vsync Reason - Full Vsync + Threaded optimisation are both turned on and your fps suddenly drops (due to a graphical intensity increase) Symptoms from applying Fix : a) Your fps will drop lower b + c) Your wallet will be lighter 5) Screen Judder - You move or pan in game and the screen suddenly judders for a few seconds How to Fix : a) Setting Max-Pre-rendered frames to 8 b) Buying an SSD will reduce micro-stuttering c) Buying a GPU with more VRAM will reduce micro-stuttering Reason : Something is loading into memory Symptoms from applying Fix : a) Graphics look worse, your wallet feels lighter b) When your fps drops, vsync turns itself off and you will get screen tearing 4) Micro Stutter - The game will occasionally and very slightly jump, or stutter How to Fix : a) Output more fps (either lower graphic settings, or buy a new GPU) b) Use adaptive Vsync It is this switch that causes smooth judder. Your fps will automatically drop to 1/2 and then 1/3 your monitor hz update. Reason : This happens when Full Vsync is turned on and your fps cant keep up. Symptoms from applying Fix : a) Input Lag b) Smooth Judder (explained later) c) Screen Judder (this happens if you also have threaded optimisation turned on and your fps suddenly drops low) 3) Smooth Judder - Movement and panning will slightly speed up / slow down every now and again Reason : The GPU fps output is not in sync with your monitor hz updates 2) Screen Tear - Little streaky lines when your game pans sideways Only the old fashioned CRT's can eliminate this. This is an inherant problem with all LCD/LED displays. Lets identify some annoying things that happen in PC games, and explain how to eliminate them - 1) Motion Blur (hardware, not the in-game setting) - This is when you have side scrolling action and the picture goes all blurry This guide is written from my own experience. If you answer yes, then this is for you ! Do you hate reading lengthly guides that tell you every bit of information, except for that which you really need? Do you feel like your only option is to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, but dont have the cash? Do you want to eliminate screen tearing, but feel the only option is to purchase an expensive new 144hz monitor? Do you want to eliminate microstutter but dont know where to start?
